TripAdvisor has released the results of its 2017 Travellers’ Choice Awards, naming the top 10 fine dining restaurants in South Africa – one of which was rated among the 10 best in the world.
The awards are based entirely on the reviews of thousands of TripAdvisor users, and covers a whole range of travel-related locations – from countries, cities and tourist spots, to hotels, resorts and restaurants.
This week, the site published its list of the 25 top-rated fine-dining restaurants in the world, with La Colombe in Constantia ranked seventh overall.
The restaurant was ranked among the world’s best, led by The Black Swan at Oldstead in the UK in the top position. The top 10 looks as follows:

- Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Great Milton, UK
- Maison Lameloise, Chagny, France
- L’Auberge de l’Ill, Illhaeusern, France

La Colombe, along with the Test Kitchen in Cape Town, have consistently ranked among the top restaurants in the world, with both ranking in the top 100 in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking in 2017, and in the Eat Out Mercedes-Benz Restaurant Awards in 2016.
For the past few years, The Test Kitchen was always ranked higher than La Colombe, but the popular restaurant – where people have to book months in advance just to get a table – was not ranked among the top 25 global fine dining restaurants in 2017, having featured in 22nd place in 2015.
However, it was ranked among the top 10 in South Africa, in third, after Zinzi, in Harkrville (Western Cape).
Below are the top 10 fine dining restaurants in the country, as voted for by TripAdvisor users.
1. La Colombe, Constantia
2. Zinzi, Harkerville
3. The Test Kitchen, Woodstock
